Nikole Ostrov, MD, MSCP grew up as one of six children, usually the one looking after everybody else. Her father was a physician, and watching him with his patients planted the idea early. During her medical school rotations she fell for women’s health, and the draw has stayed the same: the chance to know a woman across decades of her life, not just one appointment.

She earned her medical degree at SUNY Upstate Medical University, then completed her OB/GYN residency and a fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Along the way she picked up Stony Brook’s Humanism in Medicine Award and two Golden Scalpel awards for surgical skill.

Dr. Ostrov’s focus on perimenopause and menopause grew as she approached midlife herself and kept meeting women who felt brushed off. Symptoms at this stage vary and are hard to pin down, which makes them easy to dismiss. She deepened her training so she could help women feel heard, understand what is happening in their bodies, and weigh their options.

“The most important part of making a diagnosis is listening. My patients know their bodies, and their stories guide my care.”

— Dr. Nikole Ostrov, MD, MSCP

She also treats lifestyle as medicine: sleep, nutrition, movement, and medication when it’s needed. She practices what she recommends, with strength training and food that supports her energy, and she knows habits only stick when they fit real life.

Patients tend to mention her warmth, her plain-spoken explanations, and the absence of judgment. She will talk about whatever you bring into the room, including the things that feel embarrassing, and she uses humor when it helps people relax. She also keeps up with the medical literature, so the warmth comes with current evidence behind it.

Dr. Ostrov chose concierge medicine for time. A gynecology visit is intimate, and trust needs room to build. In her Ms.Medicine practice, she has that room to give.
